My reaction to this weeks learning is saddened to hear how many struggle with mental illness in prison and do not receive the treatment they need. This section showed me how many problems within the criminal justice system are mental health issues. Our criminal justice system is broken, and so are many other aspects of our country in regards to both mental and physical health. I would like to do further research on my own in regards to this topic, including reading the articles used as a source for the book, Not a Crime to Be Poor.

ReplyDeleteYes, I did some reading in regards to the lack of mental health services in rural Iowa. Some bills have been passed to start new programs however, this is challenging to start when funding for mental health is being cut at the same time.
