Week 1 Post 2 - Criminal Profiling

It is important for people interested in criminal justice to understand how investigators and detectives use methods to create criminal profiles and why they do so. The FBI's Criminal Investigative Analysis method aims to find the major personality traits and behaviors of the offender. Other methods such as the Investigative Psychology Approach look at past studies and pull large amount of data to find trends as well as focusing on the motivation offenders have to commit the crime. There are many aspects to look at within a crime to help determine a criminal profile including the location, timing and evidence.
Learning this information is vital to those with interest in the criminal justice system. It is important to think about not only who may have committed the crime, but to also understand their possible reasoning behind it. It can also be helpful for others to learn characteristics often found in those committing violent crimes because it could help prevent them.
